Obituary for Herman H. Ring

Ring, Herman H., 79, of Piney went to be with his “Virginia” surrounded by his children and grandchildren, Friday, February 17, 2012.

Herman was born April 16, 1932 in Richwood, WV in a boarding house son of the late Henry Rue and Virginia Brown Ring.

He was a 1950 graduate of St. Albans High School, retired from Bayer Corp. after 39 years of service as a Construction Superintendent and was an electrician by trade, Scoutmaster of Troop 311 in New Martinsville from 1984-1989, and a Methodist by faith.

He was a big fan of the “Valley Lumberjacks”. He installed the first football lights at the Lumberjack Field in 1971. He was a great supporter of all Valley High School sports teams and organizations having seven children and seven grandchildren (also two future graduates) to graduate from VHS in the past forty years.

He was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed the challenge of fixing the “unfixable.” Herman was a wise man. Many of his family and friends relied on him for advice and Herman was always willing to share his words of wisdom. Herman had many hobbies; he loved to hunt and fish in his own personal boat. He was an avid collector of cast iron figurines and toys. He loved taking road trips in his Cadillac with his best friend “Buddy.” He reserved his Sundays for “Steelers Football” so he could watch the best player in the NFL, Hines Ward, “make the catch.” Herman loved the quiet country life in Piney. He enjoyed sitting on his porch watching wildlife with Buddy and his guard dog, “Diezel.” He spent a lot of time riding 4-wheelers and loved to work outside. He loved telling stories about the past hoping to get a laugh from his grandkids. In recent years, Herman always looked forward to hosting his annual “Rockin’ In the Holler” every July. He was the host for the past six years where he entertained hundreds of guests over the four-day weekend.

In addition to his parents and wife, Virginia Kelley Ring he was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Mitchell and David Ring.

Surviving are his seven children, Herman Kelly (Bonita Jo) Ring of Pine Grove, WV, Judy (Mark) Ring Shock of Crestview, FL, Janet (Rick) Ring Kimble of Mannington, WV, Becky (Tim) Ring Anderson of Sistersville, WV, Jenny Ring Brown (Steve Morris) of Pine Grove, WV, Tina Ring of Middlebourne, WV and Henry Phillip (April) Ring of Pine Grove, WV; fifteen grandchildren, Brian Shock of Tallahassee, FL, Alena Barnett (Kevin) of Tulsa, OK, Corinna Somers (Dan) of Hillsborough, NC, Kelly Jo Yoho (Mike) of Reader, WV, Racquel Ring (Mikey) of Reader, WV, Mike Perris (Johnna) of Fairmont, WV, Andy Brown III (Brittany) of Pine Grove, WV, Cristina Eddy (Mike) of Middlebourne, WV, Wesley Eddy (Taryn) of Middlebourne, WV, Heather Brown of Pine Grove, WV, Levi Wichterman of Morgantown, WV, Hunter Ring of Pine Grove, WV and Colton Ring of Pine Grove, WV, Nathan Anderson of New Martinsville, WV, Todd Kimble of Fairmont, WV, eleven great grandchildren, McKinlee Yoho, Sophia Barnett, Layden and London & Lance Martin, Teagan and Willow Eddy, Devon, Damien, Dakota & Dahlia Kimble; two sisters, Virginia Billings of Ashland, KY and Julie Coalter (Charlie) of Marietta, CA; brother, Harry Ring (Sue) of St. Albans, WV; beloved companion of twelve years, his dog “Buddy” and was known as “Pap Ring” to many of his nieces and nephews.
